My Name is Eunice Kalagho (Mrs Chelwa), am from Chitipa.
I was a student at Corporate Institute of Horticulture (CIH), during my training at CIH I leaned a lot of things including Gender Makes Business Sense (GMBS) and horticulture production.
While I was still at CIH we discussed with my husband to start a horticulture business when I finish my training. At the same time we also discussed the name of business which discussed to be GABEN enterprise. The name GABEN was developed from two name GABRIEL and EUNICE where by gab is from GABRIEL who is my husband while EN from EUNICE who is me.. I finished my training at CIH in august 2023. Thereafter I conducted my attachment in misuku EPA which is under Chitipa Agriculture Office.
Then we sold groundnuts to buy polyether tubes, manure and banana corms to start raising seedlings and multiplication of banana suckers.
At first we improvised a small humidity chamber for banana macro propagation.
Thereafter we started selling seedlings and banana suckers for the small humidity chamber. The money raised here was used to buy materials to construct standard chamber.
We are doing this business with all family members including us parents and other relatives that we are staying together with. In situation where by my husband is not available then I take care of the business and a situation where I am not available then my husband will take care of the business. in situation where by me & my husband we are not available other family members (relatives) they continue to take care of the business.
However most of the time we do this business together as a family (husband, wife, relatives & children).
Since we started this business we have managed to generated K1,451,500.00 this money was generated from October 2023 to April 2024, a bigger part of money generated was used to open and boost our stationary services shop the remaining money was used to pay school fees and buying some basic needs at home.
